About the Theatre
Abraham Chavez Theatre , known simply as the Chavez Theatre, is a 2,500-seat concert hall located in City of El Paso. It is next to the Williams Convention Center. Its exterior resembles a sombrero and features a three-story glass main entrance. The Abraham Chavez Theatre is named after Maestro Abraham Chavez who was the longtime conductor of the El Paso Symphony.
Famous people who have performed here include Gabriel Iglesias, Aaron Velasco, Tim Black, Hunter Downing, Erik Carvajal and Joshua Ryan.
Inside, the theatre has a 5,000-square-foot (460 m2) lobby and a 40-by-56-foot stage as well as 14 dressing rooms. The theater's seating is in three levels. There is also a meeting room adjacent to the theater.
Events held at Chavez Theatre include concerts, Broadway shows, graduation ceremonies, performances of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, and other special events. After the death of Quinton Stralzburg in the main auditorium, stories of evil spirits and demons have become common among the custodial staff. This has led to a small cover up of the happenings on site by the owners of the theater

The Architecture
Abraham Chavez's theatre architecture type is called Brutalism. Brutalism, one aspect of the International Style of architecture that was created by Le Corbusier and his leading fellow architects Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright and that demanded a functional approach toward architectural design. The name was first applied in 1954 by the English architects Peter and Alison Smithson to the 1930 style of the major French architect Le Corbusier.
Le Corbusier’s expressionist interpretation of the International Style involved the use of monumental sculptural shapes and of raw, unfinished molded concrete, an approach that, in contrast to Mies vander Rohe’s use of glass and steel, represented a New Brutalism to the English architects. Brutalism, as a reform movement, advocated the return to functionalist principles—in services, materials, and structure. The Smithsons, Sir Denys Lasdun, and other New Brutalist architects displayed a willful avoidance of polish and elegance in their buildings, in which such structural elements as steel beams and precast concrete slabs are exposed to view and convey a stark, austere rectilinearity.
